Alimentari are the Italian equivalents of our delicatessens back home. Every town has a number of them dotted throughout the streets and even the smallest grocery shops will have a small counter selling ham, cheeses and fresh pasta. Rather than just sticking to the supermarkets we recommend that you have a wonder around the town and have a look at these wonderful little shops. While the trullo is actually nearer to Locorotondo than Alberobello we almost always go to Alberobello when we need anything and the Alimentari of Valerio is a stones throw from the main church on Corso Vittorio Emanuele. He has the finest selection of hams and cheeses but be aware that some of them are very expensive so check the prices carefully. Valerio also has a small room with a few tables and chairs where for around €10 you can try many of his products.
